Welcome to Monero-OTC.com!

Monero-OTC.com is a new peer-to-peer over-the-counter (OTC) marketplace for Monero (XMR), the private and untraceable cryptocurrency. Our goal is simple: let people buy and sell XMR directly with each other, either in person for cash or online with the payment method of their choice — with the site acting as an escrow to keep both sides honest.

If you have used LocalBitcoins, you already know how it works. Now imagine that, but for Monero, and with privacy as the first priority instead of an afterthought.

Dear Monero community,

We would like to announce a new website currently in development, Monero-OTC.com. The idea is to allow users to buy and sell XMR directly and privately, both in person or online. The site will be similar to localbitcoins in that it primarily functions as an escrow service. Users will be able to post ads or respond to ads to make trades with various payment methods.

The website is in early development, but we are running a node and have put a block explorer up at explorer.monero-otc.com. Currently the node is running on testnet during development.

How It Works

1.	Find or post an ad. Browse offers to buy or sell XMR in your city or country. Filter by payment method — cash, bank wire, PayPal, gift cards, other cryptocurrencies, etc. Or post your own ad with your own price and terms.
2.	Open a trade. The seller's XMR is locked in escrow by Monero-OTC.com. The buyer then sends payment using the agreed method (or meets the seller in person to hand over cash).
3.	Release. Once the seller confirms payment, the XMR is released from escrow to the buyer's wallet. Done! If there is a dispute, our staff will step in and mediate.
4.	Leave feedback. Build up your reputation over time so that other traders know they can trust you.

Q: When does the site launch?

A: We don't have a firm date yet. The site is in early development. Follow @monero_otc or sign up for the mailing list on the left and we will let you know.

Q: Why testnet?

A: We're running our node on testnet while we build and test the escrow system so that no real funds are at risk. We will switch to mainnet before launch.

Q: Will I need to verify my identity?

A: No. Monero-OTC.com will not require ID verification. You only need an email address (or none at all, if you use our planned Tor mirror). We are building this for the privacy community.

Q: What are the fees?

A: Fees are still being finalized. We're aiming for a small percentage on completed trades only — posting ads will be free.

Q: Is this affiliated with the Monero Project?

A: No. We are an independent team of Monero enthusiasts. Monero is an open-source project and we are just building something on top of it.
